Double good news for central employees: signs of DA increase in July also
New Delhi. A series of relief news continues for central government employees and pensioners. After the recent decision to increase Dearness Allowance (DA), now another good news is coming out that there is a possibility of increase in DA in July 2026 also. This can further increase the income of lakhs of employees.
How much has DA increased now?
The government has recently approved a 2% increase in DA. After this, dearness allowance has increased from 58% to 60%. This new rate is considered to be applicable from January 2026, hence the employees will also get the arrears of the previous months.
How is DA decided?
Dearness Allowance is calculated using a fixed formula, which is based on the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW). This index tells how much the prices of everyday things have changed. In fact, twice every year in January and July, the government revises DA based on the average figures of the last 12 months. That means, the more inflation increases, the more is the possibility of DA increasing.
What new increase can we get in July?
According to recent data, CPI-IW has registered a continuous increase. If the same trend continues for the next few months, then there may be another increase of about 3% in DA in July 2026. If this happens, the total DA may increase to 63%. However, the final seal on this will be given only after the official announcement by the government.
The focus is also on the 8th Pay Commission
Apart from dearness allowance, the employees are also eyeing the next big step, the 8th Pay Commission. It has been a long time since the last Pay Commission was implemented, hence it is expected that the government may soon consider the formation of a new commission. If this happens, not only will there be an increase in the basic salary, but the entire structure of allowances may also change.
