New Delhi: Ekadashi fast is considered very sacred in Hindu religion. Every month there is one Ekadashi each in Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. Two important Ekadashis are falling in March 2026, first is Papamochani Ekadashi and second is Kamada Ekadashi. By observing these fasts one gets the blessings of Lord Vishnu, sins are destroyed and happiness, peace and prosperity come in life.

General importance of Ekadashi fast

Ekadashi fasting is the main way of devotion to Lord Vishnu. According to the scriptures, fasting on this day erases the sins of previous births and increases virtues. Tulsi worship, Vishnu worship and listening to the story is very beneficial. Basil leaves are not plucked on this day, so keep them prepared in advance. Eat fruits or one meal during the fast. Parana should be done on Dwadashi.

This is Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month. Its name is Papmochani because it gives freedom from all sins. It is mentioned in Brahmanda Purana. Fasting destroys sins, gives happiness to children, brings success in education and removes financial problems.

In the puja, take bath in the morning and offer Arghya to the Sun. Spread a yellow cloth and place the idol of Vishnu-Lakshmi. Offer saffron-turmeric tilak, yellow flowers, basil leaves. Light lamps and incense, read the story, perform aarti and offer food. Donate food or clothes.

This is Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. The name Kamada Ekadashi itself suggests that it fulfills wishes. Wishes are fulfilled by this fast. During the puja, do special worship of Vishnu, Tulsi and Mother Cow. Install Shaligram or Gopal ji.

Chant the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay’ 108 times. Do 7 rounds of Tulsi. Feed bread and jaggery to the cow. Also worship Amla, Peepal and Banyan. Donate food or sweets.
