independent morning reporter

More than a dozen government hand pumps are lying broken in Mathura Gram Panchayat of Haraiya Satgharwa development block of Balrampur. Due to this, the villagers are facing a lot of trouble for drinking water. The hand pump installed in front of Badka’s house in Mathura Khurd village, in the Dalit colony of Takiya village and on the roadside in Chaisar village has been malfunctioning for the last six months.

Villagers Manoj Kumar, Ram Lal, Dinesh Kumar and Raju told that due to non-functioning of hand pumps, they have to wander here and there for water in the afternoon. Rabia, Amina, Chhotka and Rafatullah alleged that the hand pumps are shown working in the government papers, whereas in reality most of them are not working. Rafatullah also said that despite giving written information to the responsible officials, the hand pumps are not being repaired.

Villagers say that in the name of repairing the hand pump, the Gram Panchayat officer and the head are misusing government funds. On this matter, Block Development Officer Pallavi Sachan said that she has received a complaint. He assured that investigation will be done soon and necessary legal action will be taken.
