When Dr. Manmohan Singh, as soon as he woke up after 10 hours of surgery, asked – How is my country?
Dr. Manmohan Singh: Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh said goodbye to the world on Thursday at the age of 92. Everyone is remembering and paying tribute to him and sharing things related to him. Now, the matter related to him has once again come into limelight since 2009, when he was admitted to Delhi AIIMS after health related problems, then he had to undergo about 10 to 12 hours long coronary bypass surgery. When Manmohan Singh regained consciousness after the surgery, he did not ask any questions to the doctor about his health. His first question was related to the welfare of the country and Kashmir. These things were shared by Dr. Ramakant Panda, a senior cardiac surgeon who treated the former PM, with NDTV during an interview.

Dr. Ramakant Panda had said during the interview that, when we completed his heart surgery, at night we took out the first breathing tube so that he could talk, the first thing he asked me was, how is my country? How is Kashmir? On this I said that you did not ask me anything about your surgery. On this the former PM had said that he knows that I will be fine.
During that time, former PM Manmohan Singh had said that, I am not worried about my surgery but about my country. During the interview, Dr. Ramakant Panda had further said that after such surgeries, patients often complain of chest pain. But he never asked or complained about anything. This was a sign of a strong man. He said, every time he came for checkup after surgery, we used to go to the hospital gate to pick him up. But he always refused us.
