Drainage crisis in Jhunsi: Lack of drains has become a big problem in many areas including Naika.
independent morning
Prayagraj. Saras Singh’s report.
The problem of drainage in Jhunsi area is becoming serious day by day. Especially in Naika, Nai Basti, Katka, and many surrounding localities, lack of drains and dilapidated drainage system has made the life of the local residents difficult. Every year this problem becomes acute during the rainy season, but the surprising thing is that despite complaints over the years, a permanent solution has not been found.
‘Pond’ is formed during the rainy season.
Even light rain turns roads into ponds in Naika area of Jhunsi. Due to lack of proper drainage system, dirty water remains accumulated in roads and streets for many days. This not only disrupts traffic but also increases the risk of infectious diseases. Local residents say that sometimes water enters the houses, causing damage to household items.
Incomplete construction and poor maintenance of drains
At many places, construction work on drains was started but was left incomplete. Even where drains are built, they remain filled with garbage due to lack of regular cleaning. As a result, the flow of water stops and a situation of waterlogging arises.
Anger among the local people.
There is deep resentment among the residents of Naika and surrounding areas towards the administration. People say that they complained several times to the Municipal Corporation and related departments, but got only assurance. At the time of elections, public representatives make promises, but later the problems remain the same.
Impact on health.
The accumulation of dirty water has increased the incidence of mosquitoes, increasing the risk of diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya. Its biggest impact is being seen on children and the elderly.
Who is responsible?
Lack of coordination between the local administration, municipal corporation and public representatives is also considered to be a major reason for this problem. Plans are made, budget is also passed, but the work at the ground level remains incomplete.
What do the officers say?
Officials say plans have been made for drainage improvements in the area and work will begin soon. However, local people now have little faith in these claims.
