Dream of becoming CM, Tharoor and Venugopal will not be able to contest elections due to this rule of Congress?

Assembly elections are going to be held in Kerala in the next two months, for which all the parties are gearing up. The main contest in the state is between the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF alliance and the Congress-led UDF. BJP is still working hard to establish its roots in the state. Meanwhile, news has come out that Congress is making every possible effort to return to power. For this, the party is taking decisions very carefully from land to organization and ticket distribution.

Actually, Congress has started a difficult selection process for the candidates in the Kerala Assembly elections. In this, a different strategy has been adopted to field strong candidates against the Left led LDF. Kerala Congress does not want to delay ticket distribution in the state. She does not want many leaders in the assemblies to hope for tickets, which would create confusion. Therefore, the party wants to clear the picture regarding the ticket in advance.

Screening committee working fast

According to sources, senior Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry is the chairman of the party’s screening committee. He has already done the preliminary evaluation to select the candidates on February 18. Congress has given some suggestions to implement the strict guidelines set by the party.

Anti-incumbency against Vijayan government

Congress is assuming that there is resentment among the people against the Pinarayi Vijayan government. The party believes that there is also an anti-incumbency factor against the Vijayan government which has been in power in Kerala for the last 10 years. Congress is planning to contest around 100 seats in the UDF alliance alone. Among the suggestions made by the Congress high command for Kerala, one strict rule is that no sitting MP will be allowed to contest the assembly elections. According to this rule, senior leaders like Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal will not be able to contest elections.

Congress high command set strict rules

Apart from this, Congress has decided that the leaders who have lost the last two assembly elections, or who have lost in the last election by a margin of more than 5,000 votes, will not be given tickets. At the same time, if there is a tie between two strong candidates on a seat, then the one who gets the ticket will contest the election and the other leader will not go against the official candidate of the party. The second leader will later be included in a government board or corporation as a reward when the government comes to power.

Also, those leaders who get tickets and lose the elections, will not be able to claim a place in the state government later, despite their seniority. Let us tell you that MP Shashi Tharoor is the co-chairman of the campaign committee for the upcoming elections along with old Kerala leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Many MPs willing to contest elections

According to party sources, the Congress high command has made these rules because many Kerala Congress MPs are willing to contest the upcoming assembly elections. These leaders feel that this time the party can come to power. Kerala Congress Secretary BM Sandeep said, ‘We have made a decisive and forward-thinking roadmap for Kerala. Detailed talks are going on to strengthen the organization and search for candidates. Congress is committed to unity, clarity and victory in the state.

The final decision on tickets will be taken by the high command

BM Sandeep further said, ‘We have done a preliminary review of the leaders seeking tickets. There will be a meeting again to shortlist the names based on the suggestions of the screening committee. At the same time, the Central Election Committee headed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will review the potential candidates, so that the single-name seats can be cleared in advance.

Amidst all this, Puthuyuga Yatra is going on in Kerala under the leadership of senior state leader VD Satheesan. It is claimed that thousands of people are getting support in this journey. In the coming time, former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi and current MP Priyanka Gandhi may also participate in the yatra. Let us tell you that Kerala Assembly elections were last held on 6 April 2021. According to this, elections may be held around this time also.
