Driving the electric vehicle revolution in India! What is ‘PM E-Drive Scheme’? Learn in detail
The Government of India had launched PM E-Drive (PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) scheme in September 2024 to promote green and sustainable transport system in the country. The scheme aims to increase the use of electric vehicles, reduce pollution and develop the necessary infrastructure for e-vehicles in the country. The central government has allocated around Rs. 10,900 crore for this scheme.
Earlier, the central government had implemented schemes like FAME and EMPS-2024. Those schemes increased the use of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the country. Based on the same experience, PM e-drive scheme has been introduced and it is currently being implemented across the country.

Under this scheme, electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-rickshaws, e-carts, electric buses, trucks and ambulances are being encouraged. Consumers who purchase eligible vehicles are subsidized according to battery capacity. Due to this, the purchase price of vehicles is reduced and the customers get financial benefits. Due to this, many citizens have started to adopt the option of electric vehicles instead of conventional fuel vehicles.
Another important part of the plan is to set up public EV charging stations across the country. Earlier many consumers hesitated to buy e-vehicles due to lack of charging facilities. However, now that the government is expanding the charging network, the use of e-vehicles is becoming easier. This scheme is also becoming important for the automobile sector. Indian automakers are developing new electric models, while investments in battery manufacturing and related industries are also increasing. As a result, employment generation is getting a boost.
