Beggars in Dubai: Before Ramadan, Dubai administration has started a big campaign against beggars. Especially foreign citizens, a large number of whom are said to be Pakistanis. The administration is taking strict action against beggars. During this operation, a beggar was caught who was reported to have property worth crores and three luxury cars.

According to Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, director of the Suspicious and Criminal Affairs Department, these people earn money by taking advantage of people’s generosity. During a raid in a market, 25,000 dirhams (about more than Rs 6 lakh) were recovered from under the mat of a beggar. An Asian man, who had come on a tourist visa, was found with around Rs 5 lakh. He used to beg near mosques and even took his two-year-old child with him to get people’s sympathy.

Sharjah Police had recently conducted a survey to estimate the earnings of beggars. During this period, 367 dirhams (about Rs 9,000) were collected in just one hour. According to Brigadier Al Shamsi, 90 percent of the people arrested were tourists who had come during Ramadan with the intention of making easy money.
