Dune: Prophecy Season 2 – Release timeline, cast details and plot – Everything we know so far

The upcoming series Dune: Prophecy is highly anticipated among science-fiction fans around the world and will expand on the story of the existing Dune franchise through a richly detailed exploration of the connections between the historical political intrigues of the Dune universe, the beginnings of the sisterhood, and the threat that will confront the people living throughout the universe by the Harkonnen women. Following the conclusion of Season 1, which ended with a cliffhanger, many viewers also look forward to Season 2 because it will feature further exploration of Arrakis, increased conflict between factions within Dune, chaos resulting from the spice, struggles for power, and other epic revelations that will have a direct link with some of the elements of the finale of Season 1. Production for Season 2 is already underway, with the series set to premiere on HBO and Max in late 2026.

Dune: Prophecy, the prequel series to Frank Herbert’s dastardly, impactful science fiction world, has greenlit its second season. After exploring the early creation of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, the series will now explore the creation story about 10,000 years before Dune (Dune: Part Two).

After concluding its first season, HBO renewed the series for Season 2 in December 2024. Filming commenced in November 2025 in Hungary, Jordan, and Spain.

Although HBO has not specified a premiere dateit appears Season 2 will be released in 2026although some sources are indicating a potential release sometime in early 2027 based on thpost-productionon schedule.

The first images from Season 2 that were shown in HBO’s 2026 previews show Valya Harkonnen arriving on Arrakis, indicating a major movement towards the franchise’s most popular setting.

The second season of Dune: Prophecy will consist of eight episodesup from Season 1’s six episodes.

Dune: Prophecy Season 2: Cast Details

Several major cast members from the first season are set to return, including:

New additions

Season 2 also introduces several new cast members as the story expands across the Imperium:

Their roles are being kept under wraps.

The series continues under showrunner Alison Schapker.

Dune: Prophecy Season 2: Plot

Although plot details are still being kept under wraps for now, Season 2 will likely pick up from where Season 1 left off at the end of its finale.

It is reported that this season will pivot toward Arrakis — the desert planet that forms the centrepiece of the history surrounding Dune and will provide additional insight into the major factions that exist within the Imperium, including the Spacing Guild and the Mentat order.

At the heart of this story are the Harkonnen sisters as they try to determine how to influence the Sisterhood’s future while also dealing with potential threats to humanity.

The political intrigue, the emergence of machines’ ability to influence society, and the continual struggle for dominance within the Imperium are expected to play an important role as this storyline unfolds.
