Duration of stay in America is not decided by visa, CBP officers will decide, Indian Embassy instructed
New Delhi . Amidst the strictness in the immigration rules of Donald Trump administration, the Indian Embassy has told how many days a traveler coming to America can stay here. It was told by the Embassy that the limit of stay of a traveler in America is not determined by the expiry date of the visa. The Embassy said that the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer decides who has to stay in America for how many days.
The embassy posted on X and said, take care! Customs and Border Protection officials decide the limit on the stay of foreign travelers in America. This has nothing to do with the expiry date of the visa. If you want to know how many days you can stay in America, then you will have to see the I-94 form. It tells for how many days he has been given permission.
What is I-94 form?
Officials said a similar advisory had been issued two months ago. All nonimmigrant travelers are required to fill out the I-94 form. It tells how many days the traveler is allowed to stay in America. This date may be different from the expiry date of the visa. According to the Department of Homeland Security, travelers coming to the United States by sea or air are given an electronic I-94 form and no application is required.
However, people coming to America by land route have to apply for I-94. To save time at the border, this application can be made from the official website. Whereas people with immigration visa in America have been exempted from this. Let us tell you that recently the US President has banned travelers from 19 countries. This also includes Afghanistan and Syria.
