E100 Fuel: Alternative to petrol ready in India, E100 Fuel gets legal approval as vehicle fuel.
E100 Fuel Policy In India: A huge historic change is about to come in India’s energy and automobile sectors. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has given legal approval to 100 percent ethanol. Now E100 has been fully recognized as a vehicle fuel in the country. This big decision is being considered very important towards reducing the country’s oil import dependence.
In the coming time, vehicles on Indian roads will be seen running on 100% ethanol instead of petrol. This new arrangement opens up a completely new avenue for flex-fuel vehicles in India. The government was working rapidly on promoting the use of ethanol based clean fuel for a long time. Now the way has been cleared for its commercial use and implementation of all necessary standards.
Companies will get new opportunities
After getting legal clarity, now vehicle manufacturers will have to put more emphasis on developing new engines. Many major domestic and international companies have already introduced prototypes of vehicles with flex-fuel technology. Now it will become very easy for companies to produce these advanced vehicles on a large scale and launch them in the market.
India’s agricultural sector and common farmers are expected to get the maximum benefit from this new and big policy. A large part of sugarcane, corn and various other agricultural products can now be easily used in ethanol production. With this, farmers will get additional market for their produce and the rural economy will also get a new and bigger boost.
Imports will decrease and environmental improvement
India has been continuously meeting a large part of its energy needs from imported crude oil. The increased use of E100 can reduce India’s dependence on international oil imports to a great extent. Apart from this, ethanol is a clean fuel, which will significantly reduce the heavy pollution and carbon emissions emitted from vehicles.

The biggest challenge of infrastructure
After getting the final approval of the rules, now it is a big challenge to create the necessary infrastructure for E100. Special storage facilities at petrol pumps, distribution system and new fuel supply network will have to be developed rapidly. Oil marketing companies and concerned ministries are now making full preparations to work in this new direction in a phased manner.
