People were frightened by the tremors of the earthquake and started running out of their houses towards the road. The intensity of this earthquake was 5.2 on the Richter scale. According to NCS i.e. National Center for Seismology (NCS), today i.e. Tuesday morning an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude occurred in Manipur. This earthquake occurred on April 21 at 5:59:33 am Indian Standard Time, whose epicenter was located in Kamjong. When the earthquake struck, people were sleeping. As soon as the earth shook, people started running out of their houses. It is a matter of relief that till now there has been no news of any loss of life or property in this earthquake.
This earthquake occurred at a depth of 62 kilometers from the ground surface, which is indicative of a medium depth seismic event. At the time of writing this report, there were no immediate reports of any major damage or casualties. Earlier this month, strong earthquake tremors were felt across North India. Its effect was visible in Delhi-NCR also.
It is noteworthy that earthquake tremors were felt at many places in North India including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on April 3 around 9:46 pm. The tremors of the earthquake were felt for a few seconds. The epicenter of this earthquake was Afghanistan.
8 people died in that earthquake in Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of more than 180 kilometers. Its tremors were felt in a large part of Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, earthquake tremors were felt in the areas of Islamabad, Peshawar, Chitral, Swat and Shangla.
What to do if an earthquake occurs
1. If you feel strong earthquake tremors, then sit under strong furniture or table in the house and place your hands on your head. If there is a mild earthquake, sit on the floor of the house.
2. If you live in a high rise building, then stay home until you feel the tremors of the earthquake. When the earthquake tremors stop, go under the building.
3. When you go down, stand somewhere far away from the building, so that there is no harm to your life if the building collapses.
4. If you live in tall buildings, it is always better to go down the stairs. Do not take the lift even by mistake, this is because in case of an earthquake there can be a power cut due to which you can get stuck in the lift.
5. Do not stand under buildings, near electric poles, trees, wires, flyovers, bridges, heavy vehicles.
6. If you are driving during an earthquake, stop the car and remain sitting in it. Park the vehicle in an open place so that there is no damage to you or your vehicle.
7. If you or any member of your family is buried under a pile of debris due to a very strong earthquake, then do not move or try to come out by removing anything present there.
8. Keep a disaster relief kit ready in a box at home at all times.
9. Switch off all the electricity switches, gas, lights etc. in the house. These can cause accidents.
What not to do in case of earthquake
1. If you live in tall buildings then do not take the lift to go down. Stay at home until the earthquake stops. Running away in a hurry can lead to an accident.
2. Do not stand near the doors and windows of the house even by mistake. Especially stay away from glass windows and doors. There is a danger of them breaking.
3. If earthquake tremors stop, do not open the windows and doors of the house immediately. Many times they crack due to shock, which is not detected.
4. Do not operate any electrical appliance in the house. Do not keep switching the switch board on and off.
