Earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir: Earthquake tremors were felt in Kashmir on the morning of 1 January 2026, creating an atmosphere of panic in the entire region. People suddenly started running out of their homes and remained in panic for a long time. Due to the earthquake, there was chaos on the roads for some time.
What to do and what not to do in case of earthquake
before the earthquake
● Consult a structural engineer to make your house earthquake resistant
● Get the cracks in walls and ceiling repaired in time
● Secure open shelves to the wall and place heavy items on the lower shelves
● Have an emergency kit ready
● Create a personal disaster management plan with your family
● Practice the ‘bend, cover and hold’ technique
during an earthquake
● Try to remain calm instead of getting nervous
● Get under a sturdy table, cover your head with one hand and hold on to the table until the shaking stops.
● As soon as the tremors stop, go out carefully, do not use the lift.
● Once outside, stay away from buildings, trees, walls and electric poles
● If you are in a vehicle, stop the vehicle and stay inside until the shaking subsides; avoid bridges or flyovers

● Do not re-enter damaged buildings
● Use stairs, avoid lifts or elevators
