Earthquake tremors felt in Kolkata and near Dhaka as over 40 user reports logged within 54 km radius
Tremors were reported in parts of Kolkata and near Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Friday after users of the Earthquake Network app flagged seismic activity approximately 2 km from Dhaka. According to data shared on the platform, at least 40 user reports were recorded within a 54 km radius of the Bangladeshi capital.
Residents in Kolkata and surrounding areas of West Bengal also reported mild shaking during the afternoon, prompting people to step outdoors as a precaution. While the exact magnitude and depth were not immediately confirmed by official seismic agencies at the time of reporting, app-based alerts indicated noticeable ground movement across the region.
The tremor comes amid a series of recent seismic events affecting the broader Bengal belt, including West Bengal in India and multiple districts in Bangladesh over the past few days. Earlier this week, moderate earthquakes were recorded in Sikkim and North Bengal, with tremors felt across Siliguri, Darjeeling and even Dhaka.
As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of major damage or casualties linked to the latest tremors. Authorities are expected to provide further clarification following official assessments.
