Why do earthquakes occur in Afghanistan?

Frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan are not a normal natural phenomenon, but are a direct effect of its geographical location. This country falls in the most active seismic areas of the world, where there is constant movement beneath the earth’s surface. Actually, Afghanistan is located in the zone where the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate collide with each other. This collision creates huge pressure inside the ground, which comes out from time to time in the form of earthquakes. This is the reason why strong and deep earthquakes are often recorded in this region. When these plates penetrate or rub against each other, huge pressure is created inside the earth. As soon as this pressure is suddenly released, an earthquake occurs. Especially the area of Afghanistan-Tajikistan border is hilly (Hindu Kush region), where deep earthquakes are common.
