With the conflict between Iran and the US turning into “major combat operations” on Saturday, Indian online travel aggregators (OTAs) are bracing for another period of turbulence.

Given the restrictions in the Middle Eastern airspace, Easemytrip has advised its international travellers to be prepared for longer flight durations and schedule adjustments for the same.

It urged travelers to monitor official airline updates regularly, keep their return travel plans flexible and secure confirmed bookings in case of a trip in the days ahead.“We will extend full assistance wherever required,” it noted.

Meanwhile, ixigo informed users of multiple flight cancellations, suspensions or rerouting of flights across affected regions due to airspace closures.

“At ixigo, we are actively monitoring the evolving situation and issuing regular travel advisories with real time airline and airport operations updates to help our customers stay informed,” it said.

Earlier today, Israel confirmed that it launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran, collaborating with the military forces of the United States. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Israel and the United States have launched an operation to remove the existential threat posed by the terror regime in Iran.”

The development is expected to hit the airline companies as well as travel tech operators, where the number of reservations will reduce as well as flight re-routing would increase fuel costs, if the unrest continues further.

This is the third instance when Indian OTAs have seen operational challenges due to geopolitical issues in recent times.

The India-Pakistan conflict, dubbed “Operation Sindoor”, led to similar airspace closures, impacting travel. The action, combined with broader geopolitical tensions, led to 70–90% booking cancellations in some parts of Northern India and a 40–50% revenue erosion for travel operators in Q2 FY25.

Following the conflict, MakeMyTrip reported a 60% drop in bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan and a 250% surge in cancellations in May 2025 due to geopolitical tensions and associated public sentiment.
