In the summer season, people often resort to cold drinks to keep themselves refreshed. Be it a function or the arrival of guests at home, serving cold drinks has become a common thing. Many people also love to eat chips with a cold drink, but do you know that this combination can prove fatal for your health? Chief Dietician of Delhi AIIMS Dr. Parmeet Kaur has shared important information.

Why is this combination dangerous for health?
Dr. According to Kaur, severe heat and cold are currently raging in many parts of the country. In such a case, it is very important to take care of health. They point out that people generally believe that drinking a cold drink will quench their thirst, but it can actually dehydrate the body. Cold drinks are high in sugar. When a person eats chips with it, the combination further increases the body’s water loss and can disrupt the body’s electrolyte balance.

Risk of dehydration and obesity
Dr. According to Paramit, the body needs hydration in summer. The caffeine and extra sugar in cold drinks draw water from the body. On the other hand, chips are high in salt (sodium) and trans fat, which are not considered healthy at all. Consuming these things continuously not only leads to dehydration, but also increases the risk of obesity to a great extent.

What are the better options for summer?
According to health experts, preference should be given to natural drinks instead of cold drinks:

Coconut water or lemon water: These are better options than cold drinks.
Homemade ORS: Prepare ORS solution by mixing 6 teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt in one liter of water and drink it at small intervals throughout the day.

Water intake: To keep the body hydrated, one should keep drinking water even when not thirsty.

Healthy Snacks and Fruits: Eat roasted nuts instead of chips. Apart from this, eating seasonal fruits like watermelon and melon is very beneficial for health.
