Eddie Redmayne to return for The Day of the Jackal season 2
Just days after the premiere of The Day of the Jackal season 1, Eddie Redmayne has confirmed that he will reprise his role in the second season of the series. Speaking through a Sky Instagram post, the actor thanked the audience for their support for the first season and stated, “If there’s one thing that the Jackal can’t stand, it’s a loose end. So we will see you soon for season two.”
The makers had renewed it for another season last month itself, but Redmayne confirmed his role reprisal only now. Lashana Lynch is yet to confirm whether she will come back.
The Day of the Jackal is an adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name, and it follows an MI6 agent’s (Lynch) constant pursuit for a shadowy assassin (Redmayne).
Academy Award-winning actor Redmayne’s decision to reprise the role stands in stark contrast to his initial hesitation to take on the role, to begin with. A self-confessed fan of Forsyth’s novel and the 1973 film adaptation, Redmayne said in multiple interviews that he would not like to “butcher it.”
The actor executive produced the series along with its director Brian Kirk and writer Ronan Bennett. The cast also includes Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi and Florisa Kamara.
