Edmond Tapsoba signs Bayer Leverkusen contract extension

Bayer Leverkusen have extended Edmond Tapsoba’s contract, tying the Burkina Faso centre-back to the club until 2031.

Tapsoba was a cornerstone of the Leverkusen team that won the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso in 2024, and has now made 267 appearances for the club since joining from Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães in 2020.

“It’s an extraordinary and very emotional thing. Staying with one club for so long – that’s not something you see very often in today’s professional football,” said Tapsoba. “Bayer Leverkusen has become something special for me, a second home where I’ve made many friends. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together. I’ve had great experiences here and have been able to celebrate fantastic titles. That’s exactly what we’ll strive for again in the future.”

“Over the past six-and-a-half years, Edmond Tapsoba has become an absolutely key player for The Werkselfone of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, performing at the highest international level,” added Sporting Director Simon Rolfes. “He was an anchor of our double-winning team – making a huge personal contribution to the success and having an exceptional influence as a link between all parts of the squad.

Tapsoba has been Leverkusen’s third-most used outfield player this season, behind Spanish pair Aleix García and Alejandro Grimaldo, and has won 249 tackles at a rate of nearly 10 per game.

“As one of our most experienced players, Eddy will continue to lead the way in building another title-winning team. This long-term contract underlines our high ambitions for the coming years,” Rolfes added.
