Effect of Balen government started visible in Nepal
Yashoda Srivastava, Senior Journalist-
In other countries, ambassadors are often appointed at the discretion of the ruling party. Most of these appointments are political and some are bureaucrats based. Nepal also has the same process in the appointment of ambassadors, but will the new ambassadors also be of Gen G category?

It has been only about a fortnight since the Balen government came to power in Nepal, meanwhile if we look at their working style, we can say that in the coming days, many such decisions can definitely be taken which give the message of change. Be they decisions related to education, women’s rights or decisions related to migration, employment and foreign policy. By dismissing one of his cabinet colleagues within a fortnight, he has also given a strong message to other ministers.
Setting a clear example of accountability and responsibility, the Balen government has dismissed Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Deepak Kumar Sah from his post, while Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta has been given a stern warning. In the written recommendation of Ravi Lami Chhane, President of the ruling party Rashtriya Swatantra Party, the Labor Minister was seriously accused of misuse of position.
According to the news, Deepak Kumar Sah misused his rights by activating his wife as a member of the Health Insurance Board which had been inactive for a long time. Sah’s removal from the post within just 15 days of becoming a minister is an indication that the government and the party leadership are not in favor of showing any kind of leniency on corruption or misuse of office. Health Minister Nisha Mehta has also been formally warned for not showing the required seriousness towards her ministry, which is being seen as a clear message in government circles that there will be no compromise on discipline and transparency.
Balen Shah’s foreign policy is being monitored by about 182 countries of the world with which Nepal has diplomatic relations. Along with this, there is also curiosity about which country Balen Shah gives preference to in his first foreign trip as Nepalese PM. Prime Ministers of previous governments usually kept China or India as their priority.
Looking at the working style of the Balen government so far, it can be said that they are quite serious about their foreign policy. Probably for this very purpose, recently he has taken a meeting of his ambassadors posted abroad in Singh Darbar. Generally this has not been happening. The Balen government has just issued a decree to recall the ambassadors of six countries including India. Earlier, the Karki government had issued an order to recall the ambassadors of 11 countries with similar appointments. Changes in ambassadors of other countries are possible in the coming days.
