Eintracht Frankfurt hold crisis meeting over Riera future ahead of Dortmund clash

Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1–2 defeat to Hamburger SV reportedly triggered a crisis meeting, with head coach Albert Riera under heavy pressure ahead of Friday’s match against Borussia Dortmund.

Under-pressure Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Albert Riera is set to remain in charge for Friday’s Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund, according to Bild.

Doubts over the Spaniard’s future intensified after a 1-2 defeat to Hamburger SV at the weekend – a result that reportedly prompted a crisis meeting at the club.

Captain Robin Koch was among those involved in the discussions, where it was ultimately decided that Riera will remain in charge for at least the Dortmund fixture, the report claims.

One key factor behind the decision is said to be that board member for sport Markus Krösche doesn’t have time to find a permanent replacement before Friday’s match, while he’s not keen on appointing an interim coach for the final two games of the season.

However, it’s already considered certain that Riera will not remain in charge beyond the current campaign.

Bild has named Alex Meier, Friedhelm Funkel and Adi Hütter as candidates to replace him.
