After increasing cases of suicide, K. Balachander released another version of the film with a happy ending. But due to public demand, he retained the original tragic ending. Before releasing the film, Balachander showed it to his idol Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor praised the story of the film, but he was also not happy with the ending and suggested a happy ending.

Madhavi, Raza Murad and Rakesh Bedi played supporting roles in the film. His acting also strengthens the story.
