New Delhi: Producer Ektaa Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have found themselves in legal hot water yet again. This time, the controversy surrounds their popular OTT platform ALT Balaji’s web series Gandii Voice.
A case has been filed against the mother-daughter duo under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, raising serious concerns over certain scenes involving minor girls in the show’s sixth season.
Why are Ektaa Kapoor and her mom facing POCSO charges?
According to reports from the Mumbai Police, the case was registered at MHB Police Station against Balaji Telefilms Limited, Ektaa Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor. The charges include violations of Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Information Technology (IT) Act, and crucial sections of the POCSO Act—sections 13 and 15. The complaints highlight that obscene scenes featuring minor girls were allegedly shown in an episode that streamed on ALT Balaji between February and April 2021.
Though The Voice is known for its risqué content, this particular episode, which sparked controversy, is no longer available on the streaming platform. While ALT Balaji has yet to release an official statement addressing the allegations, the legal proceedings continue to attract attention, raising questions about content creators’ responsibility in the digital streaming age.
