According to the data released by the Election Commission, the number of voters in nine states and Union Territories fell by more than 17 lakh during the process. According to figures released by the Chief Electoral Officer, the number of voters in the nine states and Union Territories of Gujarat, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa and Kerala before the SIR was launched was approximately 214.5 million.
After the release of the final voter list, this number came to approximately 197.5 million, a total decrease of 17 million voters. Most names were omitted in Gujarat. A total of 68 lakh 12 thousand voters were excluded from the list, bringing the total number of voters from approximately 50.8 million to 44 million, a decrease of approximately 13.40%. It is followed by Madhya Pradesh, where an estimated 3.425 million names were omitted, bringing the number of voters to 53.9 million from 57.4 million. In Rajasthan, 3.1 million voters were excluded, while in Chhattisgarh, 2.5 million voters were excluded. Other states also saw a significant drop in Rajasthan where 3.136 million voters’ names were omitted.

The Election Commission says that this campaign is being implemented to provide more accurate and up-to-date voter registration. In Assam, a special review process was adopted instead of SIR, which was completed on 10 February.
