Election Commission rejects allegations made by JMM regarding voting time limit

Ranchi: During the assembly elections in Jharkhand, allegations were leveled against the Election Commission by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha regarding the timing of voting. On Monday, the Election Commission rejected JMM's allegations.

Responding to the allegations made by JMM, the Commission posted on social media platform The facts in this context are as follows-

1. There are a total of 29,562 polling stations in the state, out of which 24,520 polling stations are in rural areas and 5,042 polling stations are in urban areas.
2. Excluding 981 Naxal-affected rural polling stations, the voting time in 23,539 polling stations in rural areas and polling stations in urban areas is from 7 am to 5 pm.
3. In the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections, polling timings were kept from 7 am to 3 pm at 89% (22,132) and 63% (18,555) polling stations respectively. This time only 3% (981) polling stations have been kept from 7 am to 4 pm, which has been possible only due to the special efforts of the Commission.
4. There is adequate publicity about the time of voting. Irrespective of the closing time of voting, all the voters standing in the queue at that time get full opportunity to vote.
