58 lakh votes were cast in Bengal and 42 lakh votes were cast in Rajasthan, ECI released the draft list of these states after SIR.
Election Commission SIR Draft Voter List: The Election Commission has recently taken a big step regarding the voter list which has surprised everyone. In states like West Bengal, Rajasthan and Goa, names of lakhs of people have disappeared from the voter list. The Commission has released the draft voter list after completing the process of Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR. The most shocking figure in this is from West Bengal, where names of more than 58 lakh voters have been removed. After all, why were the names deleted on such a large scale and will these people not be able to vote now, this question is in everyone’s mind.
According to the Commission, out of total 5.46 crore voters in Rajasthan, forms of about 41.85 lakh people could not be submitted. The main reason behind this is either the death of these voters or their permanent shift somewhere else. This campaign ran in West Bengal from 4 November to 11 December. After this, the total number of voters in the state has directly come down from 7 crore 66 lakh to 7 crore 08 lakh. That means lakhs of fake or absentee voters have been thrown out of the system.
What will happen to those whose names are deleted?
West Bengal’s special observer Subrata Gupta has made it clear that there is no need for people to panic. 30 lakh people whose data did not match the 2002 list will be called for hearing. There they can get their names added back by showing the documents. In Goa too, more than 1 lakh names have been deleted, but there also eligible voters can apply again from 16 December 2025 to 15 January 2026. Opportunity has also been given till the same date in Lakshadweep, where 1429 names have been left out of the list.

Most affected in Jaipur, Rajasthan
If we look at the figures of Rajasthan, 8.75 lakh voters were found dead and 29.6 lakh were found shifted or absent. The maximum impact has been seen in Jaipur district. However, there are around 11 lakh voters who will be issued notices to submit their papers. Out of total 11 lakh 85 thousand voters in Goa, only 10 lakh 84 thousand people filled the form. It is clear that the Election Commission is now in a mood to make the voter list completely transparent so that no irregularities can happen in future.
