Election Commission should improve the form…Former Navy Chief got SIR notice, Admiral Arun Prakash got angry after being called 18 KM away

New Delhi : The process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is underway by the Election Commission in many states across the country, the aim of which is to update the voter list and identify duplicate or dead voters. However, many people have raised questions regarding this process. Some voters say that despite filling the form, they were called to the office to prove their identity.

Admiral Arun Prakash shares his experience
Let us tell you that former Navy Chief retired Admiral Arun Prakash criticized this process on social media. He said that he and his wife had filled the form, but they received notices to prove their identity by appearing on different dates and at different places. His age is 82 years and his wife is 78 years old, and yet he had to travel a distance of 18 kilometers to be present in the office. He clarified that he does not want any special facility, the name should be in the voter list only on the basis of filling the form.

Equal status with other retired officers
Admiral Arun Prakash also said that South Goa MP and retired naval officer Viriato Fernandes had also received a similar notice. He told that their names were registered in the voter list for a long time, and a thorough investigation was also done by the Commission before the elections.

Election Commission’s response
The Election Commission says that the purpose of the SIR process is to clean the voter list and identify duplicate and dead voters. This process was first implemented in Bihar and is now being implemented in 12 other states, most of which have upcoming elections. This situation has made it clear that even though the process may be formally the same for all, it remains a time and effort burden for elderly and retired officers.
