Election Commission takes strict action on BJP's 'hate' advertisement, directs to immediately remove advertisement from social media page

Ranchi: BJP Jharkhand Taking serious note of the complaints of Congress and JMM regarding the misleading and malicious videos posted on social media platforms, the Election Commission has directed the CEO Jharkhand to immediately direct BJP Jharkhand to remove the said post. Remove it from the party's social media platforms, and also issue a notice seeking clarification regarding the alleged violation of the provisions of the MCC in the said post.

Election Commission directed to take immediate action

Apart from this, the CEO has been directed to take immediate action in the matter and get the objectionable post removed from the social media platform expeditiously by coordinating with the designated authority in the state under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act.

Congress-JMM have expressed objection

In their complaint to the Commission today, JMM and Congress have objected to the video posted by BJP Jharkhand, terming it misleading and divisive.

What is in the controversial advertisement

In the video, a JMM supporter's house is shown with a JMM party banner. It also shows a poster with a picture of Hemant Soren with the caption “Shuddh Jharkhand ka kya palat kar denge”. In the video, hundreds of people from a particular community are seen entering the house without informing and forcibly entering the house with the intention of staying there.

The complaint alleged that the video published by Jharkhand BJP is full of baseless allegations and lies, aimed at unduly influencing voters by creating a feeling of hatred and enmity against JMM and its leaders.

JMM wrote a letter

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission, accusing it of running a false and misleading campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party has alleged that BJP's official social media handle “BJP JHARKHAND (BJP4JHARKHAND)” has circulated fake and divisive propaganda material against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his party in gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

What is JMM's allegation?

The memorandum submitted by JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey said that the BJP published a misleading advertisement from its social media handles on November 16, 2024. Using the picture of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in this advertisement, it is said, “Will turn the entire Jharkhand around.” It shows a person saying that “These people will demolish your house too.” Such material has been displayed in the advertisement, due to which an attempt has been made to spread fear and hatred in the society.

Violation of the Code of Conduct

JMM said that this advertisement is not only based on false facts but is also a violation of Section 123 of the “Representation of the People Act, 1951”. The memorandum also alleges that this campaign has been launched with the aim of misleading voters and spreading hatred towards opposition parties.

What is JMM's demand?

The party has demanded the Election Commission to take the following action:

  1. The handle “BJP JHARKHAND (BJP4JHARKHAND)” should be banned immediately.
  2. All misleading content and videos should be removed immediately.
  3. Strict action should be taken against those running such false and fake publicity campaigns.

Vinod Kumar Pandey said, “This campaign is an attempt to spread confusion and division among the public. This action of BJP is not only against the dignity of democracy, but is also a conspiracy to mislead the people of Jharkhand.”
