Election Commission’s big action before Bengal elections, 13 DMs transferred after DIG
Tezzbuzz Desk – Before the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, a major change has been seen at the administrative level. The Election Commission has made major changes in the state police and administrative structure and transferred many senior officers, due to which the political atmosphere has also heated up.
Many DIGs and DMs were changed
According to the notification issued by the Commission, DIG level officers of Raiganj, Murshidabad and Burdwan have been transferred. Apart from this, changes have also been made in the officers of Presidency Range and Jalpaiguri Range.
Not just the police department, there has been a major reshuffle at the administrative level as well—a total of 13 district magistrates (DMs) have been changed, including in important districts like North Dinajpur, Malda, Nadia, parts of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Alipurduar.
Even before this, the Election Commission has removed the state’s DGP, CP of five commissionerates and ADG (law and order) level officers. These continuous transfers are being considered as an exercise to ensure fair system before the elections.
political rhetoric intensified
Politics has also become heated regarding these transfers. Minister of State Shashi Panja alleged that the Central Government and the Bharatiya Janata Party are misusing various institutions. He said that before the elections, efforts are made to create pressure through agencies and now administrative officials are being targeted.
BJP’s counterattack
BJP’s chief spokesperson Debjit Sarkar rejected these allegations and said that as long as these officers were in office, they were working under the influence of the state government. He claimed that in some cases serious allegations like destruction of evidence have also come to light.
