If the electoral bond is closed, the ‘Electoral Trust’ Money poured in, donations received by BJP-Congress will blow your mind

Politics Parties Donation: In the first financial year (2024-2025) after the Supreme Court struck down the government’s anonymous political funding scheme through electoral bonds, nine electoral trusts have donated a total of Rs 3,811 crore to political parties. Out of which the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center got Rs 3,112 crore, which is more than 82 percent of the total funds given by the trusts.

According to the contribution reports submitted by different trusts to the Election Commission of India, the Congress party received about 8 percent of the total donations, i.e. Rs 299 crore, Indian Express reports. All other parties together got the remaining 10 percent or about Rs 400 crore. However, the total donations received by political parties is much higher, as the Electoral Trust is just one channel of funding.

Donation of Rs 3,811 crore from the trust

As of December 20, reports of 13 out of 19 registered electoral trusts were available with the Election Commission. Of these, nine trusts have announced a total contribution of Rs 3,811 crore. This is an increase of more than 200% compared to Rs 1,218 crore announced for the 2023-2024 financial year. Four trusts (Janhit, Parivartan, Jai Hind and Jai Bharat) have not announced any contribution this year.

Prudent Electoral Trust is at the forefront

Prudent Electoral Trust has emerged as the biggest donor to BJP, contributing a total of Rs 2,180.07 crore. This trust mainly received funds from companies like Jindal Steel and Power, Megha Engineering, Bharti Airtel, Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent Pharmaceuticals. Prudent joins Congress, TMC, ‘AAP’ And also donated to TDP, but about 82 percent of its total funds of Rs 2,668 crore went to BJP alone.

Similarly, Progressive Electoral Trust raised Rs 917 crore from different companies in the 2024-2025 financial year, out of which Rs 914.97 crore was donated. BJP got 80.82 percent of this amount. Tata Group companies like Tata Sons, TCS, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Tata Power were the main funders of this trust.

This trust donated to Shiv Sena UBT

Mumbai-based KEC International Limited was the only company that donated to Janapragati Electoral Trust. Out of the total Rs 1.02 crore received by the Trust, Rs 1 crore was donated to Shiv Sena (UBT). Harmony Electoral Trust received Rs 35.65 crore, of which it gave Rs 30.15 crore to BJP. Companies like Bharat Forge (22 crore) and Kalyani Steel were the main donors.

Who got Rs 150 crore from Mahindra Group?

The New Democratic Electoral Trust received a total of Rs 160 crore from Mahindra Group companies, of which Rs 150 crore was given to the BJP. Of the Rs 25 crore received by Triumph Electoral Trust, Rs 21 crore went to BJP, in which CG Power contributed the most. At the same time, Rs 19 lakh received by the Jankalyan Trust was divided equally between BJP and Congress.

Let us tell you that in the last financial year (2023-24), BJP received a total of Rs 3,967.14 crore as voluntary contribution, out of which 43 percent were electoral bonds. After the Supreme Court declared the bond scheme unconstitutional, companies now make donations either directly or through the Electoral Trust through cheque, DD or UPI transfer, details of which have to be reported to the Election Commission.
