Now electric vehicles will be cheaper, government employees will get discount up to Rs 4 lakh
Electric Vehicle Discount India: Telangana government has made a big relief announcement for government employees. Now if state employees buy electric vehicles, they will get a huge discount of up to ₹ 4 lakh. This initiative has been launched with the aim of providing relief from the rising prices of petrol and diesel and motivating people to adopt environment-friendly alternatives.
What is the new initiative of the government?
State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has announced this special scheme. Under this, government employees will be given a discount of up to 20% on purchasing electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers. For this scheme, talks have been held with companies like Mahindra Electric, Ola Electric, Gravton Motors and Ather Energy. About 5 lakh government employees are expected to get direct benefits from this decision.

Under this scheme, employees will get 10% to 20% discount on the price of the vehicle.

With this, buying an electric vehicle will now become more affordable than ever.
Advance relief in road tax and registration fees
Telangana government has already taken big steps to promote EV. In 2024, the government had waived 100% road tax and registration fees on electric vehicles. This includes bikes, cars, taxis, autos, tractors and buses. Now after the addition of new discounts, buying an EV can become one of the cheapest options in the country.
EV headquarters and expansion of charging network
The government has also planned to set up an exclusive EV headquarters in Hyderabad. With this, charging stations will be increased rapidly across the state:
- in government offices
- in public parking
- in malls and hotels
- So that people do not face any problem in charging EV.

Government departments will also adopt EV
Following the instructions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, now all government departments will purchase only electric vehicles. Even vehicles hired for government purposes will now be EVs. More than 2800 electric buses are already running in the state.
