Elon Musk brings XChat, X’s direct messaging app which will compete with WhatsApp

This app has been made available for pre-order on the App Store and it is expected that it will be launched on 17 April 2026. This messaging app was being talked about for a long time and now with its launch, Elon Musk is thinking of competing with WhatsApp. In the past too, he has been repeatedly criticizing many features of WhatsApp including its security.

For iPhone and iPad users around the world, social media platform This will not be like the messaging app with the old direct messaging system within the main app of X. Instead, it will work as a separate application. It is going to enter the market with improved messaging tools.

Many features are said to be available in XChat and these are mainly related to privacy and control. One of its major features will be its end-to-end encryption feature. This means that only the sender and receiver can read the users’ messages. No third party can access this chat or its content.




  • Apart from this, in future the app will also give permission to its users that they will be able to edit and delete messages after sending them. These deleted messages can be deleted from both sides of the chat conversation. Another feature of this will be that it can block screenshots, with the help of this it will not be possible to share or save the content of the users without their permission.

    There will also be an option of disappearing messages in XChat and its specialty will be that users will be able to disappear the message within 5 minutes of receiving it. This feature can prove useful with temporary and sensitive communications. Apart from these features, XChat will allow large group chats which can have up to 481 members. It will have the feature of cross device calling, with the help of which users will be able to make voice and video calls on supported devices.

    X has claimed that XChat will not contain any ads and will not track user activity on the app. This shows the company’s priority of privacy and secure communication. This app can prove to give users more control over their messages. Features like delete message, edit and disappearing messages have been designed to enhance user privacy.

    According to the App Store listing, you can pre-order XChat before its official release. After its pre-order, it will be available for automatic download from April 17. However, your device must be running iOS 26 or later or iPadOS 26 or later.
