Elon Musk's AI company will compete with Microsoft
Washington Washington. Elon Musk has revealed new plans for his artificial intelligence company xAI, as the world's richest man looks to take on Microsoft and its dominance in both the AI and gaming industries. Their first step will be to launch a standalone app for xAI's bots called Grok AI, which could compete with Bing AI and even ChatGPT, whose parent company is backed by Microsoft. Musk's next plan is to build an AI game studio because he wants to “make games great again.” But, this is an attempt to take on Xbox from behind.
The Wall Street Journal (via The Verge) has reported that xAI is working on a standalone app for Grok AI, which would connect the company's AI chatbot to OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing AI, and even Google's Will put you in a better position than Gemini. The app will provide all the services of its counterpart, which is integrated into X. However, Grok AI is only available to X Premium or X Premium Plus customers. There is no free version like ChatGPT. The upcoming app may change this, allowing users to access Grok AI without any subscription. According to TechCrunch, a free version of Grok AI is starting to appear in some regions, though is still within the X app. Musk's plans for Grok AI include making it a standalone service that anyone can access on their smartphone, whether they have an X account or not.
Musk, who claims to be one of the top 20 Diablo players, has announced that his AI company will create an AI game studio because “a lot of game studios” are owned by “big corporations”. “@xAI is going to launch an AI game studio to make games great again,” he said. His response came in a repost on Dogecoin creator Shibetoshi Nakamoto's post about how “game developers and game journalism are so caught up in ideology.” While Musk didn't specify how he would do this or what his current plans are for entering the gaming industry, his announcement came on the heels of his criticism of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Musk accused Nadella of appointing candidates in line with the company's diversity hiring policy, while ignoring their qualifications.
