Emergency alert echoed across the country, government alert system will alert you with loud siren and flash message on your phone.
Tezzbuzz Desk- On Saturday afternoon, at around 11:42 pm, the smartphones of millions of people across the country suddenly rang with a loud siren sound. An emergency alert message in Hindi and English flashed on the phone screen, causing many people to panic for some time. However, it later became clear that this was a testing message.
New system will give warning before disaster
Keeping in mind the safety of citizens, the Government of India has prepared a state-of-the-art emergency alert system. Through this system, the government will be able to send alerts directly to people’s mobile phones in case of earthquake, flood, cyclone or any security threat.
The special thing about this alert is that it will reach the user through loud siren, vibration and flash message even when the phone is in silent mode.
Alert system connected to ‘SACHET’ platform
This cell broadcast alert system has been jointly prepared by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Ministry of Communications. It has been linked to a platform named ‘SACHET’, the purpose of which is to provide immediate information in case of emergency. It was tested across the country, in which people of many states including Delhi-NCR received this message.
Will work even without internet
The biggest feature of this system is that it works even without internet. This alert can reach the users even in case of weak network or call drop. However, in areas where there is no mobile signal at all, this message will not reach.
The Department of Telecommunications has clarified that this is only a test, so there is no need to panic. This message may appear more than once during testing, which is advised to be ignored.
The network will become stronger in future
The government’s goal is to create a strong emergency communication network that can instantly deliver correct and accurate information to millions of people at the time of any disaster. In the coming time, this system will be able to work even on those phones which do not have recharge, because it works on area-based technology.
This emergency alert system is a big step towards making disaster management more effective in the country, so that by giving timely warning to people, their life and property can be protected.
