Mumbai: Manipuri language film ‘Boong’ recently achieved a significant achievement at the BAFTA Awards 2026. The film won the Best Children and Family Film category, the first win in this category for an Indian film. ‘Boong’ received this honor beating renowned international films like Zootopia 2, Lilo & Stitch and Arco. Now the makers of the film have released the official trailer ahead of its theatrical release in India.

This film is going to be released in theaters on 6 March 2026. The story of the film revolves around a schoolboy ‘Boong’. Set in the backdrop of Manipur, the story depicts caste tensions, border challenges and family disintegration. Boong continues to search for a father for his mother. This journey of the child’s innocence, love and courage is heart touching. This is the first feature film of director Lakshmipriya Devi, which has been premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been appreciated on many international platforms.
What is special in the trailer?
The trailer begins with the enchanting yet challenging environment of Manipur. A glimpse of hope and pain is visible in the eyes of the little child Boong. He is seen struggling to reunite his family. The punchy dialogues, beautiful cinematography and background music add to the effectiveness of the trailer. Although the trailer is only 1-2 minutes long, it reflects the depth of the entire story. Seeing this, the audience becomes emotional and starts waiting for the film.
The film is produced by Excel Entertainment, starring Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. ‘Boong’ was originally scheduled for a limited release in September 2025, but is now getting a wide release following its BAFTA win.
