Emotions getting the better of him… Sam Konstas once again drops a massive statement on his brawl with Virat Kohli
A controversial moment was created between India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli and Australia’s teenager, Sam Konstas during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 season. The incident took place in Australia’s innings during the day of the game when the players were crossing over. While moving across the pitch, Kohli and Konstas bumped shoulders. They very promptly turned to each other and started an animated talk. Teammate Usman Khawaja had to move with haste to throw himself between the two batsman.
That incident at the time had Konstas reflecting on the episode and saying “emotions got to both of us,” while which Australian opening batsman has now come up with his rather bold response in an interview with 7NEWS recently.
Emotions getting the better of him…as you learn to live by it; it’s quite a memorable thing. It has happened, I think I have watched it so many times, I am sorry.
Since then, both Indians and Australians had great contrasting views on it, and the experts as well as the media had their own perceptions of the issue. The incident also resulted in Australia’s newspaper labeling Kohli a “clown.”
Haddin this time shifted the onus of behaving overly rough onto Kohli. He did not progter such aggressiveness, but many suggested that he, too, was nothing but a shade of his former self gone weaker and more desperate. “The weight of expectations had turned him into a frustrated figure who wasn’t just frustrated with the kind of cricket Konstas plays but also his lean spell. Another ex-captain, Sunil Gavaskar, was also among those who slammed Kohli for the act.”
Kohli was fined 20% of the match fee, and there was also a demerit point assessed on him.
After the spat it was predicted that Virat Kohli might face suspension but thankfully nothing like that happened as Virat Kohli was found guilty of level 1 offence. Level 2 leads to suspension of one game along with 2-4 demerit points.
