Employees have put forward these 5 big demands, will the government agree?
New Delhi. As the new year 2026 begins, discussions regarding the Eighth Pay Commission have intensified among central government employees and pensioners. The period of Seventh Pay Commission has been completed and now all eyes are on the new salary structure.
Meanwhile, All India NPS Employee Federation has put forward five important demands related to employees and pensioners before the government, which will have a direct impact on about 50 lakh employees and more than 69 lakh pensioners. According to Dr. Manjeet Patel, National President of the Federation, these demands have been prepared keeping in mind the actual needs of the employees and the current economic situation.
1.Proposal to increase the family unit
The most important demand of the employees is related to the fitment factor. The Federation says that at present the family unit is calculated considering three, whereas in today’s time this number does not meet the actual needs. There is a demand that the family unit should be increased from three to five, which will automatically improve the fitment factor and the employees will be able to get the real benefit of salary increase.
2. Big increase in insurance amount
Serious questions have also been raised regarding employees’ insurance. Currently, the amount received is said to be very less compared to the insurance deduction. The federation says the existing insurance cover is not able to meet the needs of the family in case of emergency or death. It has been demanded that the insurance amount should be increased to a minimum of Rs 25 to 50 lakh, Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore at the middle level and Rs 1.5 to 2 crore at higher positions.
3. Improvement in medical facilities
There is resentment among the employees regarding medical facilities also. Where CGHS facility is not available, the fixed medical allowance of ₹ 1000 given by the government is considered inadequate. The federation has demanded to increase it by 15 to 20 times and like the Ayushman Bharat scheme, good private hospitals should also be included in the government panel, so that employees and pensioners can get better treatment.
4. Same basic salary in the entire country
The Federation has raised a big issue regarding salary discrepancies. Despite similar posts and similar levels, there is a huge difference in basic salary across states. It has been demanded that in the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’, the basic salary and dearness allowance (DA) should be the same in the entire country, while the allowances can be changed as per the regional conditions.
5.Option for Delhi Government employees
A special demand has been made regarding the employees of Delhi Government. After retirement, many employees have to come back to Delhi for treatment, which increases the problem. There is a demand that after retirement, employees should be given the option to choose between CGHS or DGHS, so that they can avail the facility as per their place of residence.
Will the government accept the demands?
Employee organizations believe that if these demands are seriously considered in the 8th Pay Commission, the economic condition of the employees will be strengthened and the working environment will be better. Now it remains to be seen to what extent the Central Government accepts these demands and how much relief the Eighth Pay Commission provides to the employees.
