New Delhi: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Army’s Chinar Corps reported that a joint anti-infiltration operation had been initiated in the region.
The Chinar Corps stated, “Based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police along the LoC in the Uri area, Baramulla. Alert troops noticed suspicious activity and challenged the individuals, prompting the terrorists to open indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire. The operation is ongoing.”
Two terrorists arrested in separate incident
In a separate development, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two terrorists in Poonch district, according to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain. Speaking to news agency ANI, Jain mentioned that the arrests had helped solve several grenade attack cases.
“This is a significant achievement as we have apprehended two terrorists involved in activities such as grenade attacks and putting up anti-national posters. They had thrown grenades at gurdwaras, temples, hospitals, and army bases,” Jain said. He added that the terrorists aimed to disrupt the communal harmony in the region.
Earlier on Friday, security forces detained an individual linked to terrorist activities in the Dundak area of Surankote Sector, Poonch district. Police confirmed the recovery of four grenades from the suspect. In another incident on the same day, Ashok Chauhan, a migrant labourer from Bihar, was found dead with bullet injuries in Shopian district.
