Engine safe with E20 fuel; The vehicles were successful in 60 thousand km tests
Pune : The director of Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) informed that E20 (20 percent ethanol blended) fuel has no adverse effect on vehicle engines, and long-term efficiency and reliability of the engine has been proven in extensive tests ranging from 40 to 60 thousand kilometers.
A press conference held on Saturday at ARAI’s headquarters in Kothrud elaborated on consumer concerns regarding E20 fuel, vehicle durability and fuel efficiency. Every E20 compliant vehicle goes through a rigorous certification and verification process as per international norms and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) standards before being launched in the market. Mathai explained.

He said that the vehicles are thoroughly tested in the field as well as in the laboratory under various weather, road and usage conditions. In this process, the effect of ethanol blend on the engine, fuel system, fuel lines and other important components is tested. All these tests have found the vehicles to perform satisfactorily and have confirmed that there is no adverse effect on the long-term health of the engine.
Standardized laboratory tests have found only a 2 to 6 percent drop in fuel efficiency with E20 fuel. However, actual fuel consumption depends on factors such as driving style, road conditions and vehicle maintenance, he added.
Vehicle owners are urged to get regular servicing done at authorized service centers as per the company’s recommendations. The auto industry is fully geared up to promote India’s ethanol blended fuel policy and is committed to providing consumers with safe, reliable and quality E20 compatible vehicles, ARAI said.
