England crushes SL – Tezzbuzz
Colombo, Feb 23: In a commanding Super Eight opener at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, England delivered a polished performance against Sri Lanka in Kandy on Sunday.
After being put in to bat, England posted a competitive 146 for 9 in their 20 overs, led by a brisk half-century from Phil Salt, who top-scored with a controlled 62. Although Sri Lanka’s spinners, particularly Dunith Wellalage, struck early and regularly, England managed to build enough runs to defend.
England’s bowling attack then dominated the chase. They reduced the hosts to 34-5 inside the powerplay, with incisive spells that dismantled Sri Lanka’s top order. Despite a spirited 30 from Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, the home side was bundled out for 95 in 16.4 overs. Will Jacks starred with the ball, taking key wickets as England sealed a 51-run victory, gaining a vital boost as they begin their Super Eight campaign.
