England cricket team’s troubles increased, investigation started after the defeat in the Ashes series.
Adelaide. The England team is embroiled in controversies after yet another defeat in the ongoing Ashes series against Australia. The 82-run defeat in the third Test not only ended the hopes of the series but has also forced the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to investigate the conduct of the team. It is alleged that captain Ben Stokes and his colleagues consumed excessive alcohol during the break between Tests.
Alcohol consumption and team image during breaks
Before the third Test, the England team took a four-day break and traveled to the Noosa resort in Australia. The decision had already been criticized by many Australian cricket experts. According to media reports, during this period some players consumed excessive alcohol, due to which questions have been raised on the discipline and culture of the team.
Management response as required by investigation
After these serious allegations, England’s managing director Rob Key has said that investigation into the matter is necessary. “If our players were going out and drinking excessively, then it should definitely be investigated,” he said.
Cultural Perspectives and Limitations
Rob Key clarified that he is not against the presence of alcohol in the team culture, but it is important to keep it limited. He said, “If the matter escalates to such an extent that the atmosphere becomes like a bachelor party, then it is completely unacceptable. Personally, I do not consume alcohol and believe that such situations are not beneficial for anyone.”
He further said, “If the Noosa trip means the players stay away from phones for a few days and spend time on the beach and have the occasional drink, then I have no problem with that. But if it goes beyond that, then it definitely becomes a matter of concern.”
