England team announced for Champions Trophy
Sam Curran, who was the Player of the Tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup, is also out of new white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum's team.
England Cricket Squad News: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday, December 22, announced its squads for the upcoming India tour and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with Joe Root returning to the England ODI squad. Jos Buttler leads the teams but there is no place for Test captain Ben Stokes in both the ODI and T20I teams.
The 34-year-old Root has recorded impressive figures in 50-over cricket despite only playing Test matches in 2024. Stokes suffered a hamstring injury during the third Test against New Zealand and was not even considered for selection for the Champions Trophy squad.
Sam Curran, who was the Player of the Tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup, is also out of new white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum's team. Fast bowlers Reece Topley and Matthew Potts are also not in the squad, but the Three Lions have a fit-again Mark Wood back in both the ODI and T20 setup.
