England won for the first time in T20 World Cup against a European team, Banton’s fifty

England has finally got its first win against a European team in the T20 World Cup. The English team ended this drought by defeating Scotland at Eden Gardens on Saturday (14 February). England won the toss and bowled first, bundling out Scotland for 152 and then easily achieved the target by losing 5 wickets in 18.2 overs. With this victory, England has kept its hopes alive in the T20 World Cup 2026.

 

Their campaign suffered a huge setback after the defeat against West Indies in the last match. Now the team captained by Harry Brook has come second in Group C with 4 points. Whereas Scotland has only 2 points left in 3 matches and is on the verge of being out of the tournament. Its last group match is against Nepal.

England won easily after initial setbacks

The England team, which came to chase the target, lost the wickets of both its openers Phil Salt (2) and Jos Buttler (3) within two overs. After this, the half-century partnership between Jacob Bethel and Tom Banton saved him. Bethel was out after scoring 32 runs. Then captain Harry Brook also left after scoring 4 runs. It seemed that the match would get stuck but Banton remained steadfast till the end and returned after leading the team to victory. He played an unbeaten inning of 63 runs in 41 balls, which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. Sam Curran contributed 28 runs in 20 balls, while Will Jacques contributed 16 unbeaten runs in 10 balls.

Scotland’s innings fell apart like a pack of cards

When invited to bat first, Scotland lost 3 wickets at 42 in 5.5 overs. From here, captain Richie Berrington (49) and Tom Bruce (24) made a half-century partnership for the fourth wicket and took the team beyond 100 within 12 overs. The Scotland team seemed to be moving towards a big score but as soon as this pair broke, its innings fell apart. Suddenly his score from 113/2 became 127/8. Oliver Davidson scored unbeaten 20 runs in 15 balls to take the Scottish team beyond 150 but it was insufficient.

 

For England, Adil Rashid took 3 wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs. Whereas Joffra Archer and Liam Dawson took 2-2 wickets. Sam Curran had one success in his account.
