England’s star bowler Gus Atkinson out of fifth test

New Delhi: The England team has suffered a new big blow in the Ashes series 2025-26. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test match to be held in Sydney.
According to the scan report, Atkinson has suffered a left hamstring injury. The injury occurred during the Melbourne Test, where England won the fourth match. His exclusion will prove to be a significant void for England’s pace attack.
injury details
Atkinson bowled five consecutive overs during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He walked off the field after his fifth over on the morning of the second day. After this he could neither bowl nor participate in fielding.
England won the match even without him, but now he will not be available for the fifth Test. This match is going to start on January 4 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
No new appointment will be made
The England Cricket Board has made it clear that no new bowler will be included in place of Atkinson. The team is going to enter the Sydney Test with the existing players, which will put additional pressure on their fast bowling team.
Continuing problems with England’s fast bowling
This is the third major blow to England’s pace attack. Earlier, Mark Wood was out with a knee injury after the Brisbane Test. At the same time, Joffra Archer suffered from side strain after the Adelaide Test and is absent from the entire series. Now Atkinson’s absence will further weaken England’s bowling.
Australia has already taken the lead in the Ashes series. This is a serious news for England before the Sydney Test. The team is hopeful that the rest of the players will perform well, but a series of injuries are increasing their challenges.
Ashes series status
Australia had won the first three matches of the Ashes series and had taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. But in the fourth match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the English team won by 4 wickets and won a Test match on Kangaroo soil for the first time in 15 years.
