Entry at Delhi border will now be expensive! Trucks will have to pay Rs 4000 instead of Rs 2600; Government’s big decision on commercial vehicles
The country’s highest court i.e. Supreme Court of India has decided to impose higher charges on vehicles passing through the country’s capital Delhi. This means that now the approval to increase the green tax has been received from the Supreme Court. It means clearly that the trucks which used to pay Rs 2600 till now, may have to pay up to Rs 4000 in the future. This rule will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
After the approval of the Supreme Court, this charge will be taken especially from those vehicles which do not come inside Delhi to unload goods or work. Rather, they use Delhi roads only to cross the city. This means that if trucks use Delhi roads now, they will have to pay heavy charges.
The motive behind approving green tax is said to be to reduce traffic and pollution in the city. However, how much pollution does this decision reduce and how do people get relief from traffic jams? Only time will tell. But after this decision, the cost of commercial vehicles is definitely going to increase.
Who will have to pay how much charge?
After the approval of the Supreme Court, now the rules will come into effect from next month i.e. 1 April 2026. According to these new charges, light vehicles like LMV cars, vans will have to pay around ₹ 2,000. Trucks and heavy vehicles will be charged double i.e. Rs 4000.
Why is so much being charged?
Many reasons have been given for charging this charge. It has been said that many vehicles use Delhi as a shortcut. This increases traffic jams and pollution in the city. Therefore, such vehicles are being encouraged to use the expressways and bypasses built outside Delhi. Due to higher charges, people will use the expressways built outside Delhi. This will reduce pollution and traffic will also reduce.
