EPF Interest Rate: Lottery for employed people! Government approves 8.25% interest, money will come to account this month!

EPF Interest Rate | EPFO New Update: There is relief news for more than seven crore shareholders of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). The central government has officially approved an interest rate of 8.25% on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) deposits for the financial year 2025-26. According to sources, this increased interest can be credited to the accounts of employed people by the end of this month (June 2026).

According to the rules, the interest rate decided by the ‘Central Board of Trustees’ (CBT), the highest decision-making body of EPFO, is not considered applicable until it gets the green signal from the Finance Ministry. Now the Finance Ministry has given its final consent on this.

The rate remained intact for the third consecutive year

Earlier, in the CBT meeting chaired by Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on March 2 this year, it was decided to fix the interest rate at 8.25% for the year 2025-26. This is the third consecutive year when the government has maintained this interest rate at this level. Since the Government of India is the guarantor of EPF, this proposal was sent to the Finance Ministry for final approval, which has now been approved.

Money will come to the account immediately: Sources said that on the instructions of the Labor Ministry, EPFO will start depositing the interest amount in the accounts of the shareholders this month. The good thing is that under the new system developed by EPFO, now the interest amount will be transferred to the accounts immediately without any delay.

How has been the journey of EPF interest rate in the last few years?

If we look at the last few years, there have been many ups and downs in the interest received on EPF:

It is noteworthy that in the year 2021-22, the interest rate was reduced to 8.10%, which was the lowest level in almost 40 years. Before this, the lowest interest rate was 8% in the year 1977-78. However, for the last three years the government has kept it at 8.25%, which has brought great relief to crores of employees of the country.
