30 thousand pages bomb: Trump’s claim of 8 flights in Epstein case, how did the US President react?
in America jeffrey epstein Once again there has been a stir in political and legal circles regarding the matter. The US Justice Department on Tuesday made public thousands of new documents related to the Epstein investigation, in which former US President Donald Trump’s name has been linked to the flight records of Epstein’s private jet. However, officials have clarified that no criminal charges have been leveled against Donald Trump on the basis of these documents.
This disclosure has come at a time when the process of making the Epstein files public under the Transparency Act is going on in America. While shocking claims have been made in the new documents, the Justice Department has also rejected some of the claims, calling them “extremely sensational and untrue”.
30 thousand pages exposed, many parts still redacted
This new batch released by the Justice Department includes about 30,000 pages of documents, of which a large number of parts are still blacked out (redacted). Apart from this, dozens of video clips have also been released, some of which are said to have been filmed inside the jail. It is noteworthy that notorious financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died under suspicious circumstances in a New York jail in 2019, which was officially declared a suicide.
Donald Trump mentioned in Epstein file
One email included in these documents has attracted the most attention. This email claims that ‘Donald Trump traveled on Epstein’s private jet more times than previously known or to our knowledge.’ This email is said to be dated January 7, 2020 and its subject line is – “RE: Epstein flight records.” The names of both the sender and the recipient of the email have been kept confidential, but below it there is mention of an Assistant US Attorney of the Southern District of New York, whose name has also been redacted.
Claim of eight flights between 1993 and 1996
According to the email, Donald Trump’s name is listed as a passenger on at least eight flights between 1993 and 1996. Ghislain Maxwell is also said to be present in four of these flights. The documents also say Trump was traveling with his then-wife Marla Maples, daughter Tiffany and son Eric Trump on some trips.
Shocking claims regarding some flights
The email also claims that Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were the only passengers on a 1993 flight. On another flight, Epstein, Trump and a 20-year-old man, whose name has been kept confidential, were present. Apart from this, two women who were on two other flights have been described as possible witnesses in the Ghislain Maxwell case.
The Justice Department called the claims “false and baseless.”
A few minutes after the release of these documents, the US Justice Department issued a statement on social media platform The Justice Department said, “To be clear, these claims are baseless and false, and if they had even an iota of credibility, they would have been weaponized against President Trump by now.”
Background of electoral politics and transparency law
These documents have come to light at a time when a large part of the Epstein files had already been released during the Trump administration. However, those documents were heavily redacted, due to which resentment was seen within the Republican Party itself. The previously released files included previously unseen photographs of former President Bill Clinton and Epstein, as well as details of a 1996 criminal complaint.
Trump’s counterattack
On Monday, Donald Trump told the media that the Epstein files were being used to “distract from the tremendous political success” of him and his party. It is noteworthy that under the new transparency law passed by the US Parliament last month, it has been made mandatory to make public all the files related to Epstein, whereas Trump had earlier been in favor of keeping them sealed.
