New Delhi: Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Delhi The government has taken an important step to encourage Chief Minister Rekha Gupta The Delhi Cabinet chaired by Mr. Subject to the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, the government has proposed that the policy will come into force from 1 July 2026 and remain in force till 31 March 2030. Under this new policy, EV buyers will get tax breaks, subsidies and other benefits. The government estimates that the general public and the EV sector will benefit approximately Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years.

Delhi will become the EV capital

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the main objective of this new EV policy is to make Delhi a pollution-free capital with a clean transport system. The government aims to encourage more people to use electric vehicles instead of petrol and diesel vehicles, thereby reducing air pollution and fuel costs. With this goal in mind, plans have been made to establish Delhi as the ‘EV Capital’ of the country.

Big benefits for EV buyers

Under the new policy, all electric vehicles will be exempted from road tax and registration fees by 100%. The benefit will be applicable to four-wheelers with an ‘ex-showroom’ price of up to Rs 30 lakh. The government believes that this decision will give a big boost to the purchase of electric cars.

15,000 crore benefits in four years

According to the government, over Rs 7,000 crore direct public investment will be made in the next four years. Additionally, considering tax incentives, charging facilities and other aspects, the total benefit to the citizen and the EV industry is expected to reach approximately Rs 15,000 crore. The initiative will spur investment, create new employment opportunities and strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem.

Government work will be completely digital

The Delhi government has also emphasized on administrative reforms. Government work is being made faster, transparent and digitized through ‘e-Office’ system. So far 235 departments have been connected with this system. The platform is used by over 1.4 lakh e-files, over 9.2 lakh e-invoices and over 15,000 active users. This enables real-time tracking of files, faster disposal and increased accountability.
