The Government of India has amended the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998. Under this, two-wheeler riders will be fined up to Rs 2,000 for not wearing a helmet or wearing it incorrectly. This means that if a cyclist is wearing a helmet but it is open, he will be fined Rs 1,000. If you are wearing a helmet and it is not tightly fitted, you will also be fined Rs 1000. Overall, now the helmet needs to be worn completely correctly. If you fail to do so, you will be charged Rs 2000.

If the helmet does not have a BSI (Bureau of Indian Standards ISI) certificate, a fine of Rs 1,000 can be imposed. This means that you must wear only ISI-marked helmets while riding a scooter. Failure to do so will result in a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 194D MVA of the Motor Vehicles Act. However, Delhi Police is currently fining people Rs 1,000.
