daily use of spf
Dr. Sood says that the best way to reduce the effects of premature aging is to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. During a research, no change was seen in the skin of people who used sunscreen daily for 4.5 years and photoaging was also reduced by about 24 percent. Dr Sood says SPF prevents oxidative stress caused by UVA rays and enzymes that destroy collagen, which cause wrinkles and sagging.
avoid smoking
Cigarettes not only spoil your lungs but also spoil the beauty of your face. A protein called ‘Collagen’ works to keep the skin young and tight. But smoking not only reduces collagen production but also accelerates the aging process by increasing oxidative stress. Doctors believe that no matter how much you protect yourself from the sun, if you smoke, deep lines and wrinkles are sure to appear on your face. It takes away the natural glow of your skin and makes it lifeless and pale. But as soon as you quit smoking, within just a few months the blood circulation starts improving and the biological aging of the skin starts reducing and its lost glow starts returning.

limited alcohol consumption
Dr. Sood emphasizes that alcohol consumption in excess accelerates the skin aging process by increasing oxidative stress, dehydration and facial inflammation, thereby affecting skin health over time. Dr. Sood advises that excessive alcohol consumption causes facial wrinkles and swelling. Due to which oxidative stress, inflammation, dehydration and obstruction of skin repair occur during sleep. Reducing its intake helps in maintaining stable water content and collagen in the body.
Tension
Stress not only tires the mind, but it also causes premature aging of the skin. Dr. Sood says that the cells of the body have small caps called ‘telomeres’. Stress shortens these, which means your cells age faster than they should. Apart from this, when you take stress, the hormone ‘cortisol’ increases in the body. Which starts breaking the collagen that keeps the skin tight. Stress takes away the moisture from the upper layer of your skin and keeps your face dry, lifeless and rough. Reducing stress not only improves your mood, but also keeps the facial cells young.
